15hp Yam 2-stroke

Is £1650 about the right money for a 2007 15hp? The ad doesn't say how many hours on it but it's a dealer, and they say 'recently serviced' by them?

I'm thinking about this for a sub-4m sib or RIB.

Thanks,

Clam

There's currently a 2010 version on eBay. Might be worth an offer at around that price..

Sounds about right, bearing in mind it's a dealer so you will get 3-6 months of warranty, unless it's brokerage on behalf of another customer. If it comes with warranty its effective from the day you buy. Not ideal given we're battening down the hatches for winter so you won't be able to test it properly until next season. Yammie stuff always holds its price, and this is a late 2 stroke. Go for the maximum hp your transom is rated for, and you won't be disappointed.

£1650 seems a little steep to me (although I'd be delighted to hear my 20 is worth more than I think). Its roughly the price the 15HP would have been new.

I'd be suspicious of the age unless it comes with an explanation as 2 strokes weren't generally available for import/sale to the public in 2010.

I think I know the northern dealer you are looking at for that Yamaha. I've bought a used outboard and had two Zodiacs from them. They are not the cheapest but their service has been excellent and that Yamaha looks a minter.

If it helps to think of its price at £1650...

I have a 2001 Mariner 15 2-stroke with low hours, full history/paperwork and it looks new. I know in the main boating season I could get £1200+ for it privately.

That Yamaha is 6yrs newer, just had a service, will have a dealer warranty & folks mostly value a Yamaha higher than a Mariner. Do all those things make it worth £450 more than mine to you?

The only negative for the Yamaha is we are at the end of the main boating season... but there's always a buyer for a mint 15hp 2-stroke.

There's a 2008 Mercury 15hp 2-stroke at Bridger, however I think it's a long shaft, at £1,995.

Sounds like the Yam in question is decent value. The question now if whether I want a 15hp two stroke, which I can stick on my parents 19ft lake boat whilst in Ireland, and use on a small SIB in UK coastal waters. Or if I ought to by a 4 - 5 metre RIB and trailer it to Ireland once a year.

If I go for the latter option I'll need to factor in the cost of storing it at a Caravan storage yard or similar cos I don't have room for it at home.

Thanks for the advice on this, the 2 stroke is now definitely an option.
