1996 90HP Oil around the front of the engine

The front of the engine on my Johnson is a little on the oily side, the air intake box and the area beneath it in general is a little on the oily side. all the cables etc and covered in a film of oil. is this normal?

There is a little oil in the front of the bottom engine tray as well.

I can't see any obvious leaks.

I have put plenty of hours on the engine with it like this and have had no problems the VRO pump is using the right amount of oil compared to the amount of petrol I have put in.

It might be fuel leaking out of the carbs when the engine's tilted. It's premixed by the VRO system before it gets to the carbs so anything that leaks out of the jet when tilted will evaporate to leave an oily residue.

Yes I think one of the breather pipes was not connected to the air box as well when I bought the engine and that may have also contributed. I will give it all a good clean up then keep an eye on it.
