1997 25hp johnson

My dad's outboard is giving him issues. When he starts the motor it continues to pull fuel through the primer pump which was recently replaced.
He's trying to find a book on it but I'm hoping someone can help who might know what the issue is.

Hi welcome to the forum, you might want to clarify what the issue is & what engine etc. Your post doesnt make sense, the engine will pull fuel through the primer given that its part of the fuel line. A bit more info should get you the info you want

Well it's a 1997 25 horsepower Johnson outboard motor.
It will idle fine but if you give it gas it dies. To me it seems like it's only pulling fuel through the primer pump and not from the fuel pump

My dad thinks the primer pump is connected wrong but there are only 2 places to connect it.

I think it's the fuel pump?
I'm not a mechanical person. I do pc repair and other electronics so if I'm not including enough, for that I apologize.
OH and thank you for the response

I’d agree fuel pump for the cost of a service kit it’s worth trying that first, also make sure you have no air leaks because that will give the same result.
