2 Stoke Oil Consumption
Could anybody give me an idea of oil consumption for a Yam 200 HPDI. Best to average at 30-35knots.
Thanks in advance

All big 2 strokes use allot of oil. Could be interesting a 200 hpdi looking at your boat. the 115 you have is it the v4 2 stroke. If so I would guess that the 200 hpdi will use about 1.5 times what the v4 uses. What boat are you putting it on?

Suspect that that logic wont apply as HPDI is clever computer controlled engine and 115 isn't! I ran my 200 HPDI for around 45 hrs last year before doing my back in and can't honestly remember how much we used. It didn't seem excessive (in fact I can only recall topping up the reservoir once!). Certainly was as good if not better than 150 Merc Optimax.

I would defiantly agree with that. The HPDI uses less than the optimax. The Fitch is fairly good as well. Out of the three 2 require specialist oil and one it does not matter so much. Problem is I have forgotten which is which. Does anyone know. Does anyone here measure the amount of oil that they use or like me do they just pore more in far to often.

HPDI uses bog std TCW3 2 stroke oil, Ficht and Opti require specialised and more expensive oil.

I am putting the 200 HPDI on a 6.85m Tornado.
Just need to calculate my oil requirements for the first few runs I do and after that I will work it out based on my early experiences. Running in, won't push the engine hard and so providing I carry spare oil I don't really think oil will catch me out but its good practice to plan your trips to the full anyway.
My 115 V4 2 stroke Yam, never seemed to use that much oil and I would normally thrash the thing!
The new boat should be up and running within weeks, and as I heve never done more than a 60mile round trip in any rib, I can't wait to try some longer trips, hopefully with overnight beer stops etc.
Roll on Feb!
Does anybody have any comment on what type of oil to use for a Yam. I have been told by a few people to use QuickSilver, which I have been doing for the past 10years, but I think considering the cost I should open my mind to new options?

Once you get things sorted you can join us for the Deauville cruise in June/ July time. Good weekend away and a good bit of boating. 100nm run to get there. I'll keep you informed

That will be a nice economical boat and will prob do 50 odd knots. Have fun I hate running boats in Just want to flat stick and go!
I have got a feeling that I put valvoline in a HPDI Cant remember though. it is the green one. Work by colour not name. Optimax is brown and Fitch is red. Useless I know sorry

On my engine
Yamaha 200 VMax (no HPDI though) in 28 hours of moderate cruising used one full tank of oil. The HPDI has a computer so possibly will be using less.
Hope that helps

Ficht oil
Fichts use little amounts of oil, but it is recommended that because the Fichts rely on fuel injection rather, than carbs you use a special oil known as Ficht Ram oil, this is expensive, it retails in Dublin at approx 34 euro a gallon approx 4.5 litre, the beauty of this oil is it contains a substance called carbx, a chemical useful to keep the injectors from clogging up.Modern high standard two stroke conforms to a formulation called tcw3, marine two stroke apparantly is different than motorcycle two stroke, as it doesnt seperate as easily.I know older two strokes run a ratio of about 5o to 1 more modern engines eg Fichts are possibly up to 70 to 1, this is hard to measure as I always like to see the tank full for obvious reasons. In the USA they are buying Ficht Ram oil for about 14 dollars a gallon. gav

Andy,
The Ficth's clever little computer increases the amount of oil used while it is running in, I dont know if, the Yam does the same so check first before using the first few runs to calculate oil consumption

It is very different from the optimax oil. Different consistency. Halocline is thinner again. Not sure if u can use it is all though. I will read the backs of the 3 cans on Sunday and report back on the details of the three.

If that is the case I wonder whether the computer report out that you can get off the Fitch gives details of the oil consumption. You can plug a laptop into to get most of the data such as revs fuel use hours etc

Yamahas when you run them in need additional oil mixed in the fuel tank 1:100 (I think)

Ficht ram oil
Manos I dont know if it is just a product suited to Fichts only it is branded, and labelled in the same logos and colours as the Ficht trademark, however as it has additives to prevent carbonizing it must superceed tcw3, which in itself is a high standard of marine two stroke.I believe it is really important to use the correct oil and I would hate to say it was suitable for carburated engines in case the mixture burned hotter or the chemicals in the oil caused perishing of seals etc. so I dont know for sure

Thanks for the info. I was only wondering just if...
I use Quick Silver 2-stroke Oil. Never had a prob with any of my engines using it.
However, every two years or so need to clean all the carbs of that green (bluish/green) deposit that sits on the carb mebrane after the engine stands for a while. Have to strip all the carbs out imerce them in the carb cleaner staff for 24 hrous and back on again.
I also use Super unleaded (Shell VPower or Shell optimax or something as it is called in the UK) just in case it burns cleaner.
Have not noticed any differenceso far but will keep doing it for a while and see.
