I'd say get the biggest engine you can comfortably carry with one hand.
If your max is 57lbs or 26kg. Then just buy it. Don't think. Just buy it.
For me the sweet spot is about 80lbs or 36Kg. I can lift more, but it's no fun.
There's a saying : There's no replacement for displacement.
9.8 =10.3 cubic inches compared to a 15 = 15.6 cubic inches.
That's A LOT more torque. Don't forget the importance of torque.
People will always ask about your boat. Extra unexpected passengers. Ever struggle to get on plane?
You'll always see people selling smaller outboards to upgrade, and rarely see people downgrading unless they're retiring and getting older , but you're young and strong right ?

Not exactly. 57. Built like a brick shit house, but had appendicitis a few years ago and upon finding a hernia during it I was cut top to bottom.
Not sure if I had a mesh inserted etc but if I lift anything heavy I can feel the strain in my stomach, so I would have had a 4 stroke 15 but too heavy.
As for speed, I’m a 65mph motorway safety priority type of guy and therefore wouldn’t want to hammer it, but also living by the river usk and aware of its power, I wouldn’t want to be caught with my pants down is a fast moving tide.
I have seen boats appear to struggle at exmouth.
Mostly I think I would be going inland, say up the dart at Dartmouth etc to start with.
Hope that makes sense.
But yes, now you mention it there are always smaller obs on offer.
