Good point. At the time, I did not have a full set of tools and had to make an "emergency" repair. I was very suprised by how well the opti responded to being submerged. They are tough motors in my humble opinion.

After opening the loom up looks like there is quite a few wires melted together and maybe easier to replace loom.

I know Stu (Rogue Wave) had a loom for an Opti he was selling.....was from a 150 and not sure if its the same as 200.....someone on here should know /be able to advise

I had to replace my opti loom last year. I was lucky, found a brand new one in USA, surplus to someone's requirements so managed to get a bargain

Just bought a second hand one from states on ebay, looks in good condition and from the same model yr motor as mine so fingers crossed.
Just after buying the loom when the phone rings, alternator specialist saying it maybe better/cheaper to source a new alternator??

So Back to the search engine, think i have one in the states for about $95, can have a family member ship it over as no international post from seller, seems a lot cheaper than £200 stg plus postage..
Anyone recommend the best delivery service from east coast USA to Western Europe (Approx 4kg) ??

hi lads just take to a normal alternater rewind it costs about £60 pounds and its as good as new . no need to by new . i at to replace my loom last year after it burning out usa £30.00 for new loom fitted my self dead easy job as they charge about £1200 pounds for loom over here.

Finally the ebay bought wiring loom arrived only to discover it was not the correct one??? Had good comms with seller and gave all engine details and part number (required). He has said that the optimax loom changed in 2001??

He has suggested me sending the one sent to me back and he could swap it for a 2005 model one, anyone know if this would be compatible??

I have not been stung on ebay yet and I am reluctant to send the loom back on 'His word' that he will send the replacement/refund. Perhaps I would be better trying to source the correct one else where and selling the other myself? Any advice welcome

My advice would be before doing anything else, have your engine serial number handy and call a dealer, ask them to give you the correct part number. Rob at Black Dog Marine is very knowledgable on opti's and extremely helpful, I'm sure he won't mind even though he won't be making a sale. 01503 265898

Thanks, Ive already checked it out ribsmarineparts.co.uk is a very useful site for identifying part numbers etc by using your engines serial number.

It turns out there is 8 wiring looms for the optimax 200hp since 2001 (Thanks Rob @ black dog marine and to martini for the tip off).

This is a long shot but I need help identifying the wiring loom I bought from the US as I want to sell it with an accurate description.

Ive taken a few photos of it and the seller is positive it from a 2001 optimax but does not know the part number. If anyone has an idea on how best to ID it and wants more detailed/higher resolution photos just let me know.

Ok the new Loom has finally arrived (Correct one this time).
Thank you Rob from Black Dog Marine.

Going to fit it over the weekend.
Plan to photograph each section and record all colour codes etc before removal of old loom but any advice on how to approach this task would be greatly appreciated.

What was it that made you think it was the wrong one?

Just in case you haven't figured it out already, remove the lower cowls to fit the loom. They're dead easy to take off and makes access really easy.

On offering it up to the the engine it was the wrong one. Although very similar there was too many connections on some parts and not enough on others?? Apparently there is about 8 different looms for the 200/225 optimax from 2001 to present????? So although I bought one from a 2001 model it would not fit my 2001 model.

Cheers for the tip on the lower cowls, hadn't thought of removing them.
