2005 Mariner 60hp 2 stroke

Hello
a little bit of help required.
I have the above engine on a Searider 4.7.
I need a new propeller, No makings on the propeller that's
on the engine at the movement.
What diameter and pitch would suit my setup?

Personally would consider a Solas from Steel Developments or a Turning Point from Streamlined Propellers. Probably latter cheapest and best performing but with former you get one free adjustment up or down. Diameter is set by the manufacturer based on the ear design and characteristics of the prop, generally higher pitch = smaller dia.

Maybe a 13 or 14" pitch will suit you depending on how lightly you are loading your boat, good for over 30kn if it pulls to max rpm. Make sure engine height is optimal if you never did that yet.

Here's their suggestions for a 60hp 2 stroke Mariner:

Try a 15-pitch aluminium propeller first and see how it performs. Hull similar to mine, but I opted for 17-pitch stainless steel, two-up, Avon tender and auxilliary engine and around 70 litres of fuel. If hole-shot is more important then 15-pitch is a good all rounder. You need a tacho in order to see the maximum RPM for the engine.

Does your Tohatsu have a 1.64:1 gearbox Spartacus? If not you can't make that recommendation or comparison. 12" pitch is middle of the road with that ratio.

I can answer my own question.
Tohatsu is higher revving and has 2.33:1 ratio so a 17" pitch for you is equivalent to a 12.7" pitch on the Mariner.

Just confirm this isn't one of the "big foot" variants they produced because they have a completely different gearbox and prop size.

Nice engine in its day and designed by Yamaha.

Yes good point Pete. Bigfoot is the less common 4.1/4" gear case vs 3.1/4" normally encountered.

Prop selection is a dark art Limecc.

You could easily spend a day with various props and real-world data on a flat-calm day to test.

Take the propeller off. There will be markings on it. The size will be stamped or cast into the boss under the washer.

I finally managed to find marking on the old prop. Its a 14 inch pitch,
I will try a 14 pitch prop to start with.
Thanks for the help
