2006 Merc 2 stroke
Hi all,
Been having a look at this: Cobra 6.0m RIB with Mercury 135hp Outboard And Road Trailer - £16,995.00
There are no clear pics of the engine but the blurb says it's a 2006 Merc 2 stroke; it doesn't look like an Opti so does this mean it's going to be a 'standard' 2 smoke? Opinions welcome.
Dan

Yeah, been on e-mail with him. And he didn't specifically say it wasn't an opti, just reinterated it was a 2 stroke. I'd rather have a 4 stroke I think.

135 sounds a bit lardy on a 6m+ that has a lot of "furniture"?

If its a 135hp 2/str, I had an interresting job on one of them, for the R.M.s when they were at poole. They wanted it to go slower we spent two or three days in the sunshine on the test lake, (well someone had to do it) I kid you not I could get the carbs and reed valves of the p/h in twenty minites max. Did we slow it down? We lost one maybe two knots thats all, the R.M.s stopped the trial then.

No smartcraft gauges so if it is a 2006 where they are standard I would agree it's not an opti.
A 135 won't be earth shattering performance but possibly reasonable
Get a sea trial if you are reasonably interested. A 2006 would have been built by Dave Picton as opposed to the new owners.

The small amount of the motor that's visible doesn't look like an Opti either.

if you have the serial number go onto the brunswick down load centre look on registrations that will show you what OBM it is and the model year, and if registered it mat tell you date of registration, which will be its age. Usually the age is from when it was registered. No serial number on it walk away.

I've seen the boat and it's a standard efi.
Is the rigging significant? I'm not sure how to answer that one....

Some people say (to quote Clarkson) they were a heavier lay up. Some tales of some the newer ones hulls flexing - noticeable when lifting on drystacks. Possibly just the good old rumour factory though !!!
Electrics/wiring not the best ,,, usually standard auto bits in that era but I did my own. Have a look in the console and under the chaise longues
I do like my Cobra and it serves me very well. It's not the nautique like this one so a bit lighter ,, but with ropes anchors oil, half a tank of fuel and all the go withs it's 1200kg so i would expect this one to weigh even more .and as regards the 135 it could be ad others say a tad underpowered and thirsty. A 150 would be better but my old dive club runs a cobra with a 135 opti and lug 6 divers and kit around on it. ,,,, deffinitely no speed records
Sea trial :-)
