250 outboard stolen - Christchurch

I have just heard that the above was stolen from the back of a boat on the river over the weekend. Dont have any other details yet, but hoping it is no one on here.

Good question ! Some moorings are mid river needing another boat to get to , but some are alongside the river bank, so possible to pull the boat into a foot of water and carry the thing away ( not in a literal sense).

Still hard going. One area of moorings is known by some as 'outboard alley' - as they are known for having motors nicked off them !

Having said that I think overall there are pretty low crime rates in the area on the river. If this has been nicked its the only one I have heard of in the last 2 or three years.

Thanks - said boat I think was new in the spring of 2009, and was moored on an easy access (and not secure) riverside pontoon probably a good half mile up river from the main Christchurch quay/ river moorings.

It is also not in any way visable from anywhere expect on the pontoon & not well lit.

A very quiet spot for the sods who did this to work on the various locks. Seems even the best locks etc wont stop someone determined .

A very nice RIBCRAFT called ' Hanover House' - hopefully insurers will pay up soon & the owner can get new motor on ASAP, or at least over the winter months.

Thanks for the update Pete

I thought it was off a RIB, but did not have enough info to go to print. I hope the damage caused in removing has not totalled the boat.

I hope some day they find the engine at the bottom of the river, with a body pinned underneath .... Now that would be justice
