Age of Mariner 40hp

Hi,

I am buying an inflatable with a Mariner 40hp and wondered if anyone knows the age of this engine. Looking it up on google got varying answers.

It's made in Japan, and is a 50:1 premix.
Mariner 40M 6E9 S 019009

Am I right in thinking this was made by Yamaha?
How many carbs does this engine have 1 or 2?

Many thanks for any help!

Yamaha p/h very good OBMs ,an owners handbook can be down loaded from the brunswick site (see previous on this board) the R.N.L.I. used them for years and the M.O.D. again used them for years, I used to like working on them oil mix is 50:1 and if it has a seperate oil tank disconnect the tank and throw it away doing the neccasary sealing of of open pipes as required

Have a look at this page...

Mariner: 40-55Hp

Takes some concentration to look through the serial numbers but I'd say a 1993??

Yeah, it would appear it's 1993 from that list.

Hopefully it will be a reliable engine.

I was planning on, when I get it:

changing gear oil
changing impeller
cleaning the carburettor (take it out or leave it in? If take it out, new gaskets?)
putting new spark plugs in

Have I missed anything?

Cheers for the help!

Edit: also it's premix, so won't have to change anything.
