Air-cooled outboard
I am looking for an air-cooled outboard in the very low HP range. Probably 4-10hp would be sufficient.
It is for a tender to my main boat which is way out in the bay of Braye Harbour, Alderney. I will be moored on a buoy so the technique is to drive out from the pontoon in my tender, moor it to the buoy, and then undo the main boat and drive it away leaving the tender for my return.
The engine needs to be air-cooled as there is no (cheap) way to take the tender out of the water and no fresh water is available (anywhere!).
Yamaha's website say they do a "splash" rather than a wet sump one at 4HP ?? But is this the same as air-cooled?

Brian, Honda do the 2.2hp. I'm not sure if the next up in the range is air cooled but worth checking it out.
I use the 2.2 for a 2.8mtr tender and it's fine but a bit noisy because it has no water jacket.
Edit: Oops, I see the 2.2 is now a 2.3hp

Have a look for a Crescent 5hp or Volvo Penta or Penta. All exactly the same engine-all 1970's-80's, all aircooled.

Brian, I have a little Johnson 3.5 hp 2 stroke, okay its water cooled but it only weighs about 12 kgs so you can pick it up with one hand and take it home, saves leaving on a mooring.
If you find one and it helps we could deliver it for you during June

No dealers here anymore as far as I know. It was nearly impossible to find spares for Tomos engines as far back as the early '90s.

Remind me on Saturday, I've got a bottle of genuine seagull EP140, a spare plug and a spare shear spring here you can have for it.

I think the next one up the range is teh 5 hp and its water cooled adn a good bit bigger, also has gears which teh 2.3 does not.
The 2.3 is very light and drives my Walker bay RID (heavier) along just under plane with one up. Nice little motor, it uses the honda 50 engine and clutch.

Sounds like we need to run a Seagull Grand Prix at the next Priory Bay BBQ

I have a new Honda 2.3 air cooled outboard for my tender. Performane is ok, but its a bit of a noisy bu**er. We were sitting in the Mermaid in Herm and i could hear my son whizzing round in the harbour!!
