Air filter

I’ve got a 40 up 2 cylinder 2 stroke outboard. Probably a silly question but I’ve never noticed before, should it have an air filter because it hasn’t got one. Thanks

It isn’t a silly question!

My Yamaha doesn’t, but it does have a box the covers the front of the carbs and the air does have to go around a few corners to get into the carbs!

From memory I think my old mariner did have some foam though in the air box?

I am sure someone more learned than me can explain more but I don’t think it is anything to worry about!

Yes, mines got a plastic box with holes all round but strangely the box fits to the carb with an o ring which is a waste of time!
