Agree with 1978, he has no reason to go to LPB when he has a dealer within 20mins.

LPB should be sorting it irrespective of where he services it!

In response to all warranties being crap, totally disagree. Barrus, mercury, once informed by "us" through a hand written letter from my old mother at our dissatisfaction of a new engine having problems in its 2nd season got a written reply, phone call, all parts and work refunded and a courtesy service and winterisation at end of season.

Similar to the etec, we had a blip in power coming intermittently, after spark plugs, injectors and three trips to the local dealer, it was a chafed wire, shorting when the steering was turned.

our original seller made all the right noises (Ian Sharlot) to confirm through Barrus that our warranty was extended to 5 yrs from 3.

Will stick to Optis next time, this is our second.

Sorry to hear of your problems. I have had good service from BRP through a local Evinrude dealer, South Coast Marine. I did not buy the engine through SCM.
Firstly they agreed to run the warranty from when the boat was completed, some 2 years from when the engine was bought, and then when I had a cracked gearbox casing (not seen anything like that before Sir!) it was replaced without a quibble. Biggest problem was getting the casing painted! All in all three weeks off the water, but it did not cost me a penny.

quick update;

Dulas Marine have been fighting my corner whilst I have been away unbeknown to me, as has Mike Loach from BRP .... and quite possibly LPB but I cant get hold of them to check. And it appears that the ECU (which is the fault) is in the post to Dulas from Belgium free of charge !! I might even be able to claim back the money for the injector I replaced last month too !

Needless to say it was a very nice surprise to arrive home to. I'll hopefully be back on the water in a week or two and the bill might not be too enormous after all !

Nice to see things are heading in the right direction finally after a lot of battling ! Just need the final confirmation of warranty and I'm laughing

I will keep the post updated.

I've since spoken to LPB... again, very helpful and paramount in the resolution.

Looks like we are at the final hurdle.

Was packing up the boat after a days diving and crabbing, when they recovered a boat run by a dive shop about 100 miles away. Nice boat, an ACB, about 30 feet or so, running (well, was) twin Suzuki 140's.

Saw the skipper pull the cowling off the port engine, so I wandered over. He said he lost an engine; was running along normally when it sounded like someone had stepped on a plastic water bottle, and power went to near zero. Post-mortem revealed that crankcase was ventilated 120 degrees around the front of the motor, about 1/2 - 1" swath of the cast metal punched out. I suspect a con rod either broke or came loose, but couldn't see anything amiss through the gash.

Kind of depressing way to end the day.
