Antiques Roadshow...

A Friend of mine has just bought himself and old engine, runs fine if a bit smoky, but keeps jumping out of gear. D
Does anyone know where to get hold of a lower half of a 1979 Evinrude 40?

Any pointers would be great.

Hey there, did you try eBay at all? I was only browsing it yesterday and there was a good collection of engines, old engines and engine parts too.. Might be worth a look?!

I would think very carefully before spending any money on that engine. It might be cheaper to buy something that works well and sell the Evinrude for spares on E Bay in the Spring (no market at this time of year).

Ought to be able to pick up a Mariner 40 for £500 this time of year.

'79?....antique?......I prefer "well run in".

If it doesn't work there are plenty of places out there with skips - er I mean lots of old engines breaking for spares with suitablty sensible prices. Post back if not, I have a little list.......

Not sure how those 'boxes operate, but there's a high chance it may be the dog and the keys are worn (I had that with the '72 25HP. Was fine until you opened the throttle!) £30 and a new (maybe replacement would be a better word!) geartrain later and it's run fine for 10 more years.
