Any ideas what this bit is
I have a mercury 50hp 4 stroke and when running on the hose/muffs today I noticed water coming out of the bottom of this small pipe? Any ideas?
Engine runs fine no problems.

It's the speedo pipe, works on a vacuum pressure system. Connects to the gauge if you have you.

I thought that but on the previous mercs I've have the pipe runs inside the steering tube....

Ah, dont have a speedo. Should water come out where the pipe meets the block?

They do on some, looks like its supposed to go through that lower cowling from the hole at the top of it but it's hard to see on the picture, makes no difference other than cosmetics though

it is a speedo tube for an anologue speedo (i used to joke that they are accurate to the nearest 100mph)

yes water could come out as the connection is in either the g/housing or the btm of the leg depending what obm, i also notice that the speedo pipe connection is missing that is why you can see water

So its normal then? It was a dribble from the base of the pipe just worried me.
