Anyone heard of a Solas New Saturn prop

Has anyone heard of a Solas New Saturn Stainless Steel propeller? And if so what is new about it. Thanks

I think Solas made a Saturn prop a while back. It was redesigned to become the New Saturn prop. Most likely different blade shape, different cupping, but same name. It's still just a prop.

Thanks Jonny, don't really know the difference between non new and new as both still sold so ordered a 11 1/8 x 14 Stainless for my Mercury 50hp 2 stroke, will see how it compares to my Ally Black Max 10 1/8 x 15, if anyone wants to take a punt at what I should expect with stainless and the extra 1" please feel free to chip in. Thanks

With my alloy 10 1/8 x 15 i got 5900-6000 rpm 41 mph with tom tom (don't have a gps)

Then after searching for a long time found a 16" Stainless Vengeance on Ebay.com and then could only pull about 5300-5400 rpm, i think speed was about 38 mph but slow pull off.

I got in touch with Steel Developments to get it altered and they had a customer who wanted a Vengeance 15" modifying to a 16" so, to save the bother of doing the work, gave me the option of supplying me with either a new Vengeance 15" or a new Solas 15" which was a bigger diameter. It would most likely be ok being a progressive pitch and bigger diameter, but if it wasn't right he would alter it for free.

After much discussion i went for the Solas, being a told it was a better quality prop, but after trying it i got 5900-6000 rpm and top speed had dropped to 36 mph, but acceleration was good so going to send it off to get it altered.

I also found it noisy and had to check i had it fitted right.

All tests were the same with me with the missus on board, full tank of fuel and gear on board, but my boat is light and the engine doesn't weigh that much.

Should have gone for the Vengeance

Scary thing is when i bought the boat it had a 13" prop fitted with no rev counter and the guy said it was really fast

Had a chat with Steel Developments, seem to know what they are talking about, so will see what the new SS prop performance is like. Won't be fitting it for another 5 weeks as I have other bits to do, so will continue trying out the new Black Max in the meantime.
