Yeah my 40veto has never outright stopped on me unless i ran it out of fuel. it has always gotten me home, usually at a reasonable pace. @beamishken Thanks for the tip, i'll message him and see. in 2013 my great uncle was told the whole package, boat engine and trailer was worth 3 grand, he let me have it for 1500.

I think the exhaust on the 50 is different to the 40 as well. Not sure if the carbs are, you could check the part numbers and see if they're different. 60 and 70 are the same block, 850cc. As mentioned they run the bigger 15 spline gearbox but I believe you can fit a 55hp or F50 13 spline gearbox which is smaller, not 100% that they fit the standard 60/70 leg but they fit the 70ces.

I'd say all of that was a lot of effort for anything but a racing boat, the 40hp running correctly should work well on that boat, performance tuning outboards is more work than it's worth for most folk!

Yeah i'm definitely going for a new prop, but i'm putting so much time and money into the hull it'd be a shame to leave the engine as-is, especially because i cant keep up with the rest of my families boats...
