Basic question Yamaha F50 AET

Hi all... RIB newbie here :-(

No previous experience with outboards, but lots of experience restoring motorbikes...nut & bolt up including engines, so not stupid either :-)

I've just bought a quicksilver 530 RIB complete with Yamaha F50 4 stroke outboard. Last night I removed the motor (probably the hard way) and now have it mounted on an adapted heavy duty sack truck, ready for a clean up and full service. As far as I know it's in full running order, it's a 2002 model.

One thing I can't figure out, is that at the bottom, by the tilt rams, there's a removable bar, angled at 90 degrees on one end, with a sliding latch on the other end, on the moving part of the engine there's a series of holes, I'm guessing it's some type of locking arrangement for the tilt ?? Can't see any reference to it in the owners manual.

Sorry if this appears to be a stupid question.

I normally do a load of homework before asking questions on a forum.

Thanks

Mat

Welcome. Assuming its a power trim and tilt version...Its a trim bar for the engine. Lets you pre set the trim level when trimming down.
Too low and the bow will be forced down and steering will be heavy and will tramline but usefull in oncoming waves.
Too high and the craft will wheelie.. Yeeeehaa.
Normally 2nd hole from bottom as a general rule.
If your out board was a non power trim and tilt which im guessing is not. This bar is the rest bar for the engine trim.

OK yes thx for the reply, it's a power tilt model.

So basically it sets the end stop position for the down tilt ?

Thx once again
