Hi Luigi, please read
Is it possible to find out if it is required by law in Italy to service and fit motors by certified mechanics?
Do you have to have an official certification paper with you, when you go out to sea, that you have serviced your motor this year?
Can you fit and service your motor yourself?
Please find out and write back because a war is starting here with the Mechanics union and they say that in Italy and the rest of the EC nobody goes out to sea without such a paper.
They, the mechanics union, are trying to create a monopoly.
Thanks
Odysseas

I don't kow a law like this in Italy.
Every year I make the service of my engine to Mar.co factory and they don't give me any certification paper for go out to sea.
For go to sea in Italy you need only the document of the boat and of the engine.
You can make yourself the service of your boat.
I have post your question in an italian forum

I don't know about the rest of the EC but the UK part of it doesn't require any documentation or qualifications to use a boat for pleasure use.
I would fight tooth and nail against it, I do all my own building and repairs and servicing partly because I can and partly because I reckon I can do a better job for less money than the professionals.
Procecuting people who recklessly endanger others because of poor boat condition or handling I would maybe agree with, rules to stop folk going out or making it more expensive I wouldn't.

I have asked my Yamaha engineer in Greece whether they have heard anything like this in Yamaha.
The reply is that he has never heard anything like it and that IT WILL NEVR HAPPEN!!
They never heard anything like it and he cannot see how it can be forced.
So as far as the engineers in Greece are concerened there is nothing like this on the pipe line.

Today I went to ...
The Mar.Co importer with this story and he immediately made some phonecalls to the Journalist of the magazine "Thalassa" which had presented the issue in an article last February.
He immediately made phonecalls to a member of the Union he happened to know, the journalist who wrote the article , the president of the union and the president of the boatbuilders union in Greece.
The summary of all these calls is that
1. Legislation has been passed, by presidential decree, on who is certified to fit and work on engines.
2.There was a suggestion for a good operation certificate but it seems that opposition has put it back in the shelf.
3. The whole issue has been shoddily prepared, researched and suggested to the govt. Just like the work some mechanics put on our engines.
4. The main idea, behind the obvious big brother-we-will-protect-you theme, is the fixing of prices for service at artificially high levels and the creation of a yearly bread and butter income for the mechanics union who will be issuing certifications.
5. There is an issue with the mechanics union wanting to be official engine fitters, without whose stamp no boat can go to sea but the Boatbuilders and importers union will fiercely oppose this.
How about these for prices!!!
Engine fitting on new boat 350euros each engine.
V6 engine 100hour service for certificate 360euros
Mano we have got to unite as owners to oppose this. Please contact as many owners and boat operators as you can and contact me.
Now is the time to contact the new government and lobby.
I know that minister George Voulgarakis is a devoted ribster and he might be helpful.

OK Odyssea will do.
Voulgarakis has a summer house in Sounion where I also have a house and I know him (although not that well). Next time I bump into him will have a chat about it. Will be in Greece next weekend and will see what else I can do.
I will also contact some friends about this outrageous proposal.

Manos sure did call some friends
Well,
If we have THAT kind of connection with the minister, then there is nothing to worry about. As long as Manos reach the guy and chat with him.
Think what will happen if that kind of regulation apply to our cars too !!!
Don't know if we should lough or cry with these.
Manos are you comming to Greece this weekend ?
ARE YOU PLANNING ANYTHING with that falcon of yours ?
