I run the new merc 150 four strokes. They come so that you can self service. Just scan the QR code on the engine and a detailed video of how to do it comes up in your phone. Very easy to do too. This saves on dealer time. Obviously you can't plug in but i haven't had to yet and I've done 168 hours do far

Not if you want to keep the 5 year warranty.

Are you happy with the engines; any issues or are they performing well?

There are great motors. Fantastic acceleration and economy.

Some interesting thoughts and comments in this thread, dealers do seem to be very poorly regulated from the manufacturers compared to the automotive industry.

I'm not so sure the automotive industry is any better, my experience of a local Land Rover main dealer has left me less than impressed

I think it's as much to how you get on with them as how well they may be regulated, regulation just means ticking boxes not doing a good job.

General question open to all:
What is the criteria to become a distributor of a manufacturers outboard engines?
Does it vary from brand to brand?
Are there different levels of distributorship? (there are certainly different levels of customer service...)
I looked at Suzuki for a price on a DF90 and note that some "dealers" appear to be predominately boat manufacturers who also supply engines, others appear not to stock anything of the range and only appear as dealers by name on a website.
Does a distributor have to have a factory trained technician on site with all the "tools" or can they just be an individual with a bit of cash that says hey I want to sell the odd engine or three, can I stick your logo on my website?

Interesting. If it was the one on the roundabout in Liverpool, with their Jag dealership on their old site on the other side of the road, I totally understand!
I travel 50+ miles to get the Forester serviced by an 'independent' who specialises in prepping Subaru rally cars and am delighted to do so in the certain knowledge that he'll do a fantastic job and the car will be totally sorted for sensible money because the guy lives and breathes the product. Same with my Transporter; use a guy in St Helens (20+ miles away) who's a dedicated, enthusiastic, independent but who's invested in all the diagnostic kit and equipment.
Main dealers just leave me speechless.

That's an interesting question, any takers?
Maybe I could ask a few manufacturers myself.
