Can you identify this please?

As a VRO or non VRO fuel pump please? I've just confused myself greatly online looking at lots of images -

Theres no marks on the engine cowl to suggest either - its a 1988 Evinrude 70 - I've read various things some good mostly bad on this age of VRO and will be using premix 50:1 - would you believe the clymer manual doesnt cover it that well -
any knowledge or experience appreciated - thanks in advance

Motor - got it turning over and getting a spark from all 3 new plugs - need to clean up connections and measure voltages from soleniod as its not overly quick when cranking, this could be battery and or connections or starter/bushes - I'm taking a positive + feed from jump leads from the car direct ot the starter motor - the manual is proving its worth as I have no remotes/ignition so being able to identify wires from each other makes things less scary! got thursday off work to tinker

Olly

It looks VRO Like to me, but it's been a couple of years since I've seen one.

If it's got anything other than the fuel in/out lines it's a VRO pump. Don't worry about it if you're running premix-just blank off the oil feed line. The 'problems' weren't anywhere near as bad as people say-AFAIK they related to oil starvation not fuel pump failure.

thanks for your thoughts stu -
Got the old brute fired up yesterday which Im most pleased with, cleaned all the connections around starter and soleniod with petrol, rubbed down with sandpaper and then wd40 and a wipe, jumped off my subaru whilst running, voltage meter showed 13.7volts were getting there this time - big cloud of blue smoke to start with as I sprayed a little in the carbs, it went fairly easily! however wasnt pumping water through tell tale though so had find a way to turn if off quick without anykind of controls plumbed in!! panic panic!! mananged to push on a rod which did something to the carbs which slowed the idle speed right down to an eventual death! -phew

now time to get that bottom leg off and inspect water pipes and impellor
