Caudwell 300HP Diesel Outboard

Been reading about this in Powerboat and RIB magazine during my lunchbreak.
https://www.caudwellmarine.com/caudw...eering-system/

Very interesting bit of kit, and looks far more developed than the COX or OXE.

Particularly interesting is the lower unit only steering, like the new Mercury V12, and that the swing is at 120deg not 90deg to the driveshaft giving the whole unit a much easier time of transmitting the large amounts of Torque.
Ease of servicing has even been considered.

To me it looks like it would really suit a big RIB in single or twin setups, but would be really at home on the back of one of the new bread of 25-35' hardboats that are rolling out with outboard power rather than inboards recently.

This company must have spend a fortune on r&d without making any return. A few years ago they brought out a weird sterndrive system with the engine mounted at 45°with a drive shaft down to a similar lower unit to this outboard, iirc it was called axis it looked the business with stainless lower unit & petrol & diesel versions but required a complete redesign of the boats stern. Never seen or herd of 0f them for years so cant have been a commercial success & now this, be interested to see how this does in the market. Guy behind it must have deep pockets

I knew I recognised the name - yes, that weird outdrive. But manufacturers were generally reluctant to redesign their boats to fit, IIRC.
