changing impeller

I want to change the impeller on my old Mariner 2hp 2 stroke but having removed the bolts I am struggling to open up the pump housing completely and remove the drive shaft. Any tips? Is it necessary to open the gear box which is corroded and I can't prise it open?

Welcome!

I don't know these engines intimitely, but I guess you can't get the pump housing off the leg / gearbox? Could you post a pic or two, might help us to tell you what to hit / heat.....
