They are actually part water, part aircooled, but I get your point.

Yes the motor I intend to review is basically a Strimmer engine with a Prop on the bottom of a shaft. The important bit is it is a 4 Stroke engine so might be quieter and might now they have had a bit of time be better than previous versions of this attempt at a cheap outboard which were previously 2 strokes and illegal to buy new. I am getting it for the very reason to actually find out for myself if it is any good. I suspect it wont be but I am prepared to give it a go and test it. I am fortunate that if it is any good at all I have an application where I can make use of it. If not then I will have wasted £175 or a bit more possibly.

I have received notification that it has shipped so if I dont get Customs issues (From Switzerland it might be here soon)

Be interested to see how shit, or not, it turns out to be.

WRT to all the other stuff. We're not all going to be mates, it's a fact of life.
First there was the Jackeens. Then there was Manos. Then there was codprawn. And many others since I am sure.

That stuff is the same that's been going on here, and boatmad, and other sites for years. If you don't like someone, just ignore 'em and don't let it wind you up. We're all only here as a hobby. Except for JK who's raking in the millions rib.net has made him.

Oh, and don't post while drunk either.

The have been some legendary posts over the years with drunken people nailing their colours firmly to the mast. With a subsequent hunt for a claw hammer the following morning.

It was a shame when The Garfish retired.

Bear in mind they generically don’t reverse. Seems some you can spin head 360 degrees and do it that way but I wonder how practical that is when the pressure is on on a nice windy day between pontoons [emoji848]

I had a 19' yacht once that didn't have reverse. You just had to make sure to "design" your approach to a pontoon or wherever a little more carefully and bail out early if it wasn't going to plan, rather than using the gears & power to correct it.

It taught good boat handling skills WRT to wind and tide effects, so was no bad thing. And actually, being able to spin the motor 90 degrees to slew the boat round on the spot is sometimes a handy thing. And if not handy, sometimes pretty cool.

Yep can see the benefits too on a big long boat actually. Bit like jet I guess

Eminently sensible advice. I just about remember those good old days - but things are much more "woke" around here now. smallfibber was "cancelled" in a previous existance as Bigplumbs and now he's fair game for a bit of casual rotten fruit throwing. He doesn't know it, but it's actually Nos4r2 using his legendary mind control trick to keep him here - trapped in an endless cycle of compulsive posting/copping abuse.

He loves it really

Watched the second video when it started up instantly thought if I had one there’d be no need for flares etc because every man and his dog will hear it in a 200 mile radius. I looked at these for an AUX engine and decided to by a 20 year old merc 3.2 and do it up total cost £100 with spares readily available.

Or possibly his corpse is lying in a shallow unmarked grave somewhere, that's possible.

Having no experience of 2 strokes I just thought you all must be mutton Jeff there is no way I could stand that noise for 5 mins let alone a few hours.

I'm with you. I looked at them when I needed an Aux and the only way I'd have one is as an anchor and instead bought a 20 year old johnson (the single cyl version that is the same as a Suzuki DT5) that had hardly been used. Bit of recomissioning work and it's spot on now.

It's not just the units themselves, but also spares availability too that needs consideration.

For the life of me can't understand why anyone would part with cash for a cheaply made Chinese egg whisk that will likely last a season before a catastrophic failure.

I'd rather have 2 stroke that looks as rough as a badger. Unless it's been run without oil, they are usually serviceable and parts are in plentiful supply.

Whether it's your main engine or an auxiliary, you put a lot of faith in an engine that it will get you from A-B safely, now that - you can't put a price on.

I suspect JK already has a queue of people complaining about me then.

I don't even know what "woke" is, I just like boats, going boating, talking bollix and sharing some of my experiences with like minded individuals.

Pffft! I wouldn't sweat it - JK has people to worry about that stuff.

Woke precis:

Boats are OK - Greta Thunberg likes them
Going boating - depends on the carbon footprint - lotta eWarriors here now
Bollix - debatable if you're actually allowed a pair
Sharing - very cool
Like minded - Very exclusionary - what about the tw@ts who are wrong?

HTH

When I started Steve my first engine was a 3hp gemini two smoke, second class ride better than first class paddle.
As said better to buy an old merc, mariner etc and do it up.still Denis needs to satisfy himself with a buy and test his money conclusion it’s shite I bet

You’re appear to be a bit out of date. I haven’t been the owner of RIBnet for a decade now and I’m definitely just here for the lolz like everyone else.

Man walks into a butchers shop, a wee dog close behind him. The wee dog runs behind the counter, grabs a string of sausages and runs out the door.

Butcher: Is that your dog Sir?!?

Man: Not any more!

It's still all your fault JK.
