Have you had it on a SIB and in the water yet?

Not yet but it will be soon. I just want to run it in a bit more and get the hang of the cold start

I said earlier that you need to get the hang of starting this engine cold and I think I have cracked it:
1) So about 5 - 6 pumps of the primer bulb
2) Set the little choke to full/Start
3) Give it 2 - 3 Pulls
4) Set the throttle to just a little above the idle position Pull and it should start
In the pic below the choke is actually in the run position as I took the pic after the engine had been running. The label is a little low but the start position is with the little lever at the top
In the pics below please note that the Chinese have for some reason marked the low throttle position as H and the High throttle position as L.... Go figure.
Next is a little more running in and then a test on the water on a sib.
As I said right from the start this engine was bought as an experiment and as a light motor for my tender to my larger speed boat on a swing mooring..
So far I am reasonably confident it will perform this role ok.

As the instructions are pants. I am wondering which is the correct side to lay this 4 stroke on when in the car. I suspect it should be with the carb facing upwards. What do others think

I wouldn’t run it with no load much more. You want some load and some heat to bed things in properly, especially the piston rings.

Your missing the point SR, I'm genuinely interested in your experiment re: Cheap Chinese Air Cooled Outboards, as I do think they will become the norm and if you are willing to test them, then great. But seeing the same, or very similar, videos of an outboard running on a stand for 17/20 secs becomes meaningless, it's not telling us anything about the outboard.
So don't be so tetchy taking offense so easily.

I find the trick is to just ignore threads, posts or sometimes even people, that aren’t interesting.

After reading Matt's comment about not running it under no load much more I decided to put it in my homemade test tub (part of an old heating oil tank that failed) to run it in a little more.
I have certainly got the hang of starting this motor now which was a major factor for me.
In the tank it seems to push water well even at only 1/3 throttle which is all I want to take it to in the tub.
I think this will push my little 3.2 m tender with 2 people in quite well.

It does seem to use more petrol that a main stream 4 stroke would use but for my use that is not an issue.
Also as the exhaust does not go through the water there is a lot less 'Polution' in the water tank than I am used to seeing running any of my other through prop exhaust motors in the same tank. I know it is all just shooting in the air instead but it is not in the water

If anyone is wondering the Prop is on some sort of centrifugal clutch arrangement and at idle the prop does not spin but as you advance the throttle it spins away... Just like a Strimmer obviously
