DF140 Trim rams

Hello all.

With Christmas out the way a chaps thoughts return to boats!

I want to use Nugents method of supporting the engine while towing by getting some keel rollers to put over the trim rams. For this I need to know roughly what the diameter of the rams is so i buy them with the right bore.

Could anyone who has a DF140 sat on the driveway (rather than 3 hours away like mine) do me a massive favour and give me a rough measurement?

Cheers

If no one has given you the answer by the weekend, i'll go and measure off mine. Might even make some for myself.

Off the top of my head, about 18mm dia. I'm stuck in the West BadlandsMidlands at the mo, but can get an exact measurement on Friday. I looked at the "tube" solution but didn't like how it sat on the cylinders. Here's my solution.Click image for larger version

How do you mean you didn't like how it sat? Was it putting undue stress on anything in particular? What's you solution made out of?

The tubes put the weight of the engine on the cylinder end caps & didn't sit "comfortably" on the under side of the engine. It might just be me being finicky. My alternative is made from UHMWPE, it puts the weight where it's supposed to go. It's basically a glorified replacement for the good old lump of wood.

As long as you're not in a hurry. I work away mon-fri so I only have weekends to play. I'd do one for a £30 donation to the RNLI + postage

Excellent! No - no hurry. I Don't suppose I will be going out before the end of March.

And you should not be out of pocket on this. £30 to RNLI plus postage plus at least your material cost, and a pint at your local

Nah! Not enough time, once you go commercial you have obligations. I'd rather do it at my own pace & let the RNLI have a few bob.

I won't be out of pocket, material is off cuts & scrap off the job. Saves it going to landfill. I'll take you up on the pint though if we ever meet up👍

Would it be massively cheeky, given that it's my OP, if I said "Me too!"? Pretty please.

I'll see what I can do. I need to check my material stocks.
