Dinghymate

Hi does any one use one of these 3 gallon tanks, I'm thinking of getting one but I'm worried about putting the extra weight on the transom and the front lifting up on a 3.1 yam sti with a 9.8 tohatsu,

I had to look them up...

11.4 Litre Dinghy Mate - Boatnbits

I can't work out if it's a brilliant idea or one looking for a problem that doesn't exist.

But thinking about it I wouldn't use one with any of the under 4m SIBs I've owned as weight distribution is important and weight all at the transom is not usually where you want it. I use a 20l tank which is usually half full to full and makes excellent moveable ballast. When one up my tank is always well forward.

It might suit a setup like Gurnard's though where he has a larger SIB with a lot of kit up front that would balance out. I could also see it suiting a larger displacement speed grp boat.

My only other thought is does the tank hang on those two brackets at the top... if so I could see potential for them breaking from the tank with extended use in bumpy water.

RIBase
You could always strap it down in the front of your Yam.

Thanks for the prompt reply as usual fenlander, think your right about movable ballast, so I think I'll just stick with a standard tank, can't help myself when I spot a gaget, yes it does hook on, cheers also Brian but these are for transomount

Tempting that it is to buy "things" for the SIB best to get a feel for how your outfit goes on a few outings before deciding on mods. If you are mostly solo you may find you need to sort out some tank fixings nearer the bow anyway.

Looking forward to seeing some pics of your SIB out with the shiny new Tohatsu!
