You can put the pics direct in the post which will be much easier for everyone.
If you are using iphone/ipad let me us know and someone will explain how. If you are using a browser then in the message editor (need to click "Go Advanced" if using quick reply, then click the paperclip. A pop up will then appear for you to find and upload attachments.
On android app pressing the "menu" key gives you an option, and then you can upload from memory card or take a photo "live" and upload it. I believe iOS is similar.

I've linked the pictures for you. The Yamaha 9.9hp cowl is mid 80's. I noticed the rest of the outboard is a different colour. I'm assuming it's been repainted at some point? To determine the exact age - look for the serial plate. It will be fixed on the outboard bracket. It has a series of numbers and more importantly a final letter which will denote the year of manufacture. You can PM it to someone who has access to the codes.

The cowling is from around 1988, but as Spartacus says, the rest of the engine may be a different age.

Thinking it's older than late 80's looks early to me. Of you let me know either the serial number or letter stamped into the bottom corner of the plate I'll age it for you.

Going by the serial plate it's a 15hp built in 1984. I thought you said it was a 9.9hp though ?
Looks like more than one motor mixed together. Does the core plug match the serial number ?
