Doel Fin Holes

At some point, I'm assuming, a previous owner must have fitted doel fins to my 25hp Evinrude('89) as there are 4 holes in the anti-acvitation plate.

I haven't had the chance to use the engine yet so don't know how it performs but wondered if these holes are likely to affect it in anyway.

Could it make cavitiation more likely or have any other detrimental effects?

Was thinking of filling the holes with some metal filler but if the holes aren't likely to be a problem I won't bother.

Agree with JW, won't make a bit of differance.

However I'd make sure the holes had some paint in them to stop any corrosion getting under the paint.

We have four holes, they've been there for five years without problem!

Corrosion isn't even a problem - probably due to the manner in which aluminium alloys oxidise which is very different from the way steel alloys oxidise.
