this will be one of those threads that goes on forever, those with or who have had opti's will say one thing and the e-tec camp with say another.
you wont go wrong with an Opti, yes i am from that camp, but honestly, i have no idea about the E-Tec, 0 experience and thus cant comment!!
smartcraft is really really good stuff, although opti's sound great, at times they are a little too noisey! 4stroke the total opposite of course, toooo quiet BUT so nice when doing 30knts having a chat.
if you can get an opti 175 then it's the smaller 2.5li (lighter) v6 rather than the 3li block for the 200hp. this should be sub £7k with smartcraft, prop and fitted, maybe nearer 6k i would hope.
i doubt fuel consumption will be much different, however, 175 <> 200 opti even given the extra CC and weight just the boat might be better balanced with less weight on the arse?
175's always seam rare in europe.

I can't comment on the bigger motors , but in comparisons I have made speaking to owners of opti's they use a lot more oil than etecs , but no one seems to take that into account .

I have one of each. Opti's are noisey, but cheaper. Etecs are quieter, but more expensive. The rest you Opti/Etec owners can argue according to what you own.

Only slightly, but the XD100 is close to £10/Ltr which negates any advantage. Not gonna lose too much sleep over that though.

Its doing about 30kts at 400rpm at the mo.

|
I did about 40 miles on Sunday in one run and 3400 to 3900 rpm= about 29-34 knots from memory and playing with the trim, but I don't get 50 knots at wot = 5200 rpm with my setup
Smart craft will tell you when its run in, it has to be run at set revs for set times etc

Officially it is 3 years for salt water use however both the dealers I have bought from have agreed the a yearly gearbag oil change would not be a bad idea and lets be hoest If you had fishing line round your propshaft then it could screw up the seal in much less time that 2 years so would affect any engine whatever the service schedule.

When I was pricing a 150 at the end of 2006, the cheapest etec was just short of £8k. I think you could get a 150 Opti now for around £6200 - £6300.

I emailed all the dealers and most quotes for a 150 were between 8 & 9k. The list pricing has just gone up about £500 I think this is due to the fact that the engines now ship with the new Lowrance digital guages, Lowrance GPS Antenna and the NMEA fluid level converter for the petrol tank.
