I saw one in Guernsey several times in the summer. Must admit it looked really good.
Drove straight onto the beach, no mucking about with a tender
No mooring fee's just find a place to drive and park
No we backsides for trying to off in the surf, just drive through it!
Looks good!

The write up in RIB Intl a while back quoted a price of somewhere up around £40k if I remember rightly, so the prices have certainly come down!
I think it's a brilliant idea but calling it an amphibious vehicle is stretching the point a bit - more accurate to call it a terrestrial boat...
Would quite like one - drive it out of the water and into a garage - bet you get some funny looks driving it on a road though

I think there is some mis info there - I think it should say the solid tubeds versions is about $8600 more expensive than the existing version see: http://www.gizmag.com/go/7611/

Hysterical
Saw the very same boat in Guernsey, St Peter Port, this summer.
However........ approx 150 meters into the harbour and at least the same amount to go for the water, the thing ground to a halt in about 2 ft of sticky black mud. The spring tide was still ebbing!
The demur young lady in the bows looked distinctly un amused in her light summer frock and sling backs as the galant skipper rolled up his chinos to disembark and summon help. (presumably a helicopter)
The huge audience that had gathered around the natural amphitheatre of the harbour wall enjoyed the spectacle no end. One tourist was heard to say.. 'these channel islanders will do anything to impress their girl friends'!

It may have beaten the record on water but on land it has no chance.
http://www.gibbstech.co.uk/aquada.php
This is what Branson used for his record. It may be a bit slower on water but on land there is no contest - top speed is over 100mph - the sealegs does about 5!!!
