electric start conversion

does anyone know how easy it is to convert a manual start outboard (a yamaha 25hp in this case)to an electric start?

i've heard there may be some kits available but does anyone here have any experience in carrying out this work?

Yeah, done it before. What year is it and is it 2 or 4 stroke?

The parts won't be cheap though unless you can find a scrapper with them on. You'll need ( for basic tiller steer) Starter motor, battery leads, maybe charging system (coil+regulator/rectifier) depending on ifit's already got one. For wheel steering you'll also need a new loom for your remotes and an electric choke solenoid.

Probably already has a charging system then.

With a 7 year old engine it'll be cheaper to sell it and buy one with electric start.

You'll also need a ring gear on the flywheel. I've done it to a version a few years older than yours, it had a ring gear as standard. I just fitted a starter motor and used a car solenoid mounted in the consol. I didn't bother converting the choke.
