Engine Discounts

I was wondering what sort discounts could be expected on a new engine ? I started off looking for a used rib but as my search moves on to get what I want, new is looking more the like the way to go so I'm going to start hunting around for deals were possible.

Anyone bought a new engine recently and got a good deal ?

Thanks.

If you're buying a new rib, in my limited experience (I've only bought 3 ribs) I've found it as cheap and a lot less hassle to buy a boat/engine package. At least you can use the boat as soon as you get it rather than having to wait for the engine to be rigged.

The dealers will all tell you how hard done by they are, and how the manufacturers give them very little margin etc. The deal you can negotiate will depend on whether you are set on a particular brand or can play brands rather than just other dealers for the same brand off against each other. It will also depend if they have one in stock which is eating up their capital or they'll have to order it specially. I would expect to be able to negotiate a better price as a package (which will limit your options) but I know other people here don't believe that is always the case. In these times of austerity I'm sure there are fewer boats and outboards being sold and so you might get a deal, especially if you can work out when he needs to shift it to make way for next seasons stock etc.

I found Charles Oakley at :: OutBoards Direct :: (which is the online side of Oakley marine) were at the competitive end of the small (sub 30 HP) engine market a few years ago, and people would offer similar or higher prices. He was pretty quick at giving me a price for various options. There is something to be said for using your local dealer, and beware the costs of rigging, cables etc.

I've bought a few engines over the years and never paid ANYWHERE near Full Retail!
Try to Build a relationship with the dealer of choice, hopefully Local, and make it apparrent it will be on-going with serviceing-spares-extras ect.
End of lines, last years models, dealer volume incentives, ect can all work in your favour.
And if one dealer won'nt play ball... there are plenty others about...in these tough times more than ever...Half a Loaf is Better than NONE

Give us a call/e mail Ribnet members get extra discount! And yes its true dealers get very little margin on engines!!. Small engines say up to 5hp we probably make about £50.00 profit i have never ever sold an engine for retail price mainly due to big dealers, and e bay under cutting everyone!!
