Engine Fire - Mariner 30

Today following an awesome dive and seeing 30+ dolphins playing in our wake and bow wave had the amusement of the St Catherines sailing club safety boat engine catch fire.

They had been struggling to get it started whilst we waited to get alongside and did not realise that lots of smoke after stopping the engine is not a good sign. Fortunately they were still tied alongside the slipway at which point we shouted to them that their engine may be on fire??

lots of disbelieving faces at our loud excitement was their response!!

We then ended up suggesting forcefully that they remove the fuel tank from the boat and disconnect the battery / feed to engine as the smoke smelt electrical. They had no fire extinguisher had it been needed or tools or bucket which I am sure must be mandatory on a safety boat????

The smoke soon subsided and they just went off and got another boat and left the smouldering 1 for another day. Don't you just love boats!!
