Engine Fuel Connector Boot

I'm adding a Suzuki engine fuel connector to my 3.5hp Tohatsu so it can alternatively run off an external tank like the 4/5/6hp models.

Does anyone know where the best place is to buy the rubber boot to keep dirt out when not in use please?

I can get the male connector for just £25 inc vat and delivery from Pacer Marine.

The cover your looking for is standard fit on all the mariner/merc/tohatsu 4/5/6 and also the yamaha 4/5/6. It’s the same size fitting. Fuel pump on the 3.5hp must be a new thing.

Thanks Davie, got one off eBay in the end. Also struggled to find the right fuel pipe, then after I'd made a purchase (only 500mm) it seemed easy to find plenty of alternative sellers. Duh

We’ve a couple of late model Mariner 3.5’s, not found a fuel pump on either.

Just sayin like!

Work on a sunny day if you keep the air vent shut for a wee while.

I had a customer who who tried all sorts of daft ideas on a yamaha f2.5 he ended up with a fuel tank mounted on the A frame.

It depends where you decide plumb in. I'm going to tap in after the shut-off valve so am not relying on the vent valve creating a vacuum. An external tank has a primer bulb to remove any airlock.

I've purchased an inline filter, strange not fitted as standard.

Engine Fuel Connector Boot

Reckon I’m gonna apologise here in advance for being thick or summat. I’m obviously missing something.

Would love to hear how a gravity fed fuel system is going to draw fuel from an external tank without a fuel pump.

You gotta put on some funky music and tap your feet to the beat!

And hope the primer bulb is under your big toe....

There is a small nylon fuel filter in the outlet of the internal fuel tank. It’s how your driving a fuel pump that’s the problem.

There's no fuel pump. Tank to fuel tap. Fuel tap to carb.

Good to know there's a nylon mesh but something finer (filtering in microns) is really best.

Just realised I’m talking a load of bollocks

I just read your fitting the Suzuki fitting, that’s same as the omc USA fuel fitting not the Japanese fitting.

I got a bolt-on connector and boot off a 2006 DF6 which will match my 2007 DF50 connector nicely.

From photos it looks awfully like the Yamaha fitting. It would have no good fitting the Merc/Mariner/Tohatsu connector as fitted to the 123cc singles. My Tohatsu will soon have a Suzuki fuel connector and Suzuki graphics are already in the post to complete the transformation.

A high thrust aluminium prop arrived from the US, also the 5hp carb in the kit will liberate the engine a little.
