Engine Mounting height 4m, bow rise..

We've fitted a 50hp Suzuki 4 stroke to our 4m, the mounting holes that are already in the transom were for a 40hp mariner.

The anti cavitation plate is sitting about 1.5" below the bottom of the v in the hull when trimmed right in.

The boat is barely usable as it is, the bow rises to a ridiculous angle when setting off, once on plane it's fine but she boggs down and takes full throttle to lift out of the water and almost submerges the transom.

The weight is fairly well balanced in the boat with a centre console foward of the centre.

Does it sound like we need to lift the engine a couple of inches? Or will this cause different problems?

Currently we can't maintain a slow speed off plane as the bow rises so far.

I've been looking at the addition of hydrofoils, or tabs as the engine we removed had hyros and didn't seem to suffer with this problem.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Paul
