Engine of the future

Has anyone looked at this on the 'other' boat forum?

Looks good

http://www.angellabsllc.com/index.html

And the animation of how it works.

I remember seeing something similar many years ago - developed by an australian and called a barrel engine.

Don't think much of their comparison photo - they show a big cummins diesel - a mazda wankel and their own engine as being equal. i would like to see the wankel power a trawler!!!

Wish i could remember the Ozzie engine - the barrel one was invented in the 1920s - the engine I am thinking of was much newer - all crankless designs though.

I love this sort of stuff.

Was talking to an old guy I use for blast cleaning the other day about Sleeve engines and Diesel aero engines. How sad is that?

I hope its more reliable than Mazda's rotary engine in the RX-8 which suffers from what Mazda describe as "Engine over fuel - non start" problem! Apparently "their unique engine design" is that it must reach full operating temperature before turning off. Failure to do this (e.g. a short journey or just swapping cars round in a car park/driveway) means next time you turn the key it fails to start - and ends up going back to Mazda for some sort of ECU fix...

...thats after over 20 years of billion-dollar-company development.

The early Mazda rotary was only fit for about 35,000 miles, then had to be striped and have rotor tips renewed, they also burnt out all 'o' rings if over heated.

Not quite - right about most of it but you do not need the ECU fixed - you just wait for the petrol to evaporate!!!

A small price to pay for driving such a great car - I had one for a few weeks.Much better than a 350z - hope to get another soon.

My old English tutor always said

"boys who are bored do not have enough brain power to invent something useful to do"

I thought it was only teenagers who got bored anyway.

Being bored is a big pet hate of mine as you have to have a pretty sad life to reach a state where you are prepared to sit and do nothing about it.

I dare say some of the things that interest you Chris would not interest me.

Does anyone know how this new type of engine works?

well actually i have spent a good few years, 10 to be precise working on various aircraft piston and gas turbine engines etc around the world. when i first started i used to love it but towards the end i had lost the thrill and excitement of it all so i moved into IT

being multitrade i used to deal with all airframe and aircraft systems so have spent a lot of time dealing with very complicated equipment and exciting equipment

dont get excited by it all as much these days, must be old age i guess.

as a hobby it can be dead exciting but as a job the shine wears off over time.

no dig/slant on you so dont take it personally

My english teacher was a W4nK3r as well

but i must say the way you responded to my comments was interesting/revealing take care

Chris

As I said, people saying they are bored, particularly adults, is a big pet hate of mine, caused by a very old fashioned school regime etc.

Anyway, we going to do bikes to the next Church do?
Need to get a fresh MOT on mine before I can ride it and you can imagine how hard it is to get my bike MOT'd.

i can imagine they have a heartattack when you walk in with 15 bikes in 1

A friend/colleage of mine has one - and yes it is a lovely car - but it doesn't seem to behave the same as a normal flooded engine. It still wont start, either if its turned over for a long time or even if its left sitting for a couple of hours. The end result is that "Mazda Assistance" come out and it leaves on the back of a truck to have the ECU reset at the dealer. 11 times in 2 years! It may be a fault with her particular can but the dealer says thats not the case.

Nasher.
I think you are talking about the right car - rear doors open the wrong way (as no pillar between the front door and the back door) - I prefer to think being more like an old black hac.

Pretends to be a 4 door car - but the front seat pasenger / driver still has to remove their seatbelt for the rear sear passenger to get in or out (as no pillar so the seatbelt is mounted on the rear door frame!).
