You don't buy a V6 to run around at idle RPM though?

I expect that's what happens to waste 4-stroke oil. They must have stopped dumping it in the sea by now?

Not according to what Chris said.
What's your experience of running a V6 Opti?

You'd be surprised how many are used for "trolling"

One other thing...doesn't the fact that XD100 is fully synthetic mean that it is much more environmentally friendly to produce, and unlike products made from naturally sourced oil doesn't it degrade much more quickly?

Enough to know that e-tec are superior
I think I asked mister Vanstone about this and he appeared to term it "utter boll*x" but when we were over at Barmouth with Roy, he told us that OMC were actually involved in the creation of the Optimax but then broke away from Mercury and continued to develop the Opti through the ficht into what is now the etec. Chris seemed to reckon that this was crap and that OMC had come upon a small German firm who had developed the FICHT and then took it on and developed it into the etec?

I don't really understand the mentality over there TBH, the only types of boating that they do are either racing or bl**** fishing

Ooh dear. In that case, it would appear that your undying loyalty to the e-tec brand is founded upon virtually (or perhaps that should read 'actually') nothing.

The only reason that I currently support the Evinrude brand is because it is the best of the best.
In my opinion, directly injected 2 strokes are technically superior to the current four strokes. There are 3 main DFI 2 stroke producing manufactures and of them I feel that the etec is the strongest, hence, my vote lies with BRP.
In the 4 stroke field, I believe that the new Yamaha SHOs look interesting, the fact that they are openly showing them competing against series 2s would indicate that the performance is more than simply claims.
If they were a little lighter, then I reckon that the Verados could be awesome engines and well within a shot
And anyway, what has Mercury got up its sleeve for the new emissions regs, aren't they coming sometime next year?

What did you think of the FICHT & DI Evinrudes, when they were produced?

Unlike Optimax, Suzuki DF & DT, etec, Verado, Honda T***tec and probably others, I have never been on one, so cannot comment
AFAIU though, some found them incredibly powerful and efficient, wheras for a fair few they simply went boom Although when BRP took over and introduced FICHT RAM I believe that there were very very few reliability issues with the engines

Unfortunately, you weren't alone in suffering this predicament.

My last RIB had a 175 FICHT on it, bloody good engine, the only problem I had in 6 years was a fuel pump. It went like sh1t off a shovel, mind you on a 585 Ribcraft it ought to
