ePropulsion Spirit 1.0 Evo Battery Fixture

Hello everyone,

I recently ordered an ePropulsion Spirit 1.0 Evo as aux for my Zar 53 Rib. Basically, it leaves a good impression, but I am a bit surprised about the battery lock / fixture. The battery has a lot of "play" / looseness on the motor, recorded here:

But the battery did not fall out of the mount in my tests.

I sent the video to the dealer, who then sent the motor to ePropulsion for inspection.

Now I got the motor back and was told that the battery lock from the "old series" had been installed, which would have less play. However, if I simply wiggle the battery 2-3 times now, it comes completely loose from the bracket. These are forces that can occur on any trailer or rough seas, where loosing the battery could be really critical.

For this reason, the dealer now wants to change back again to the previous "new style locking mechanism" with more play, but less risk of loss.

What do you think? Does anyone have a Spirit 1.0 Plus/Evo and can do this short check to see if it behaves similarly?

Thanks & Best regards,
Volker

Hi, unfortunately not. I think most people use them for their Dinghys (instead of as a Rib Aux Engine) and therefore do not experience the bouncing / looseness of the battery (which is of course pronounced in Rib-type weather).

Regularly, I drive without the battery mounted, or have the battery secured when driving.
