Etec 40 unused for 5 years

Hi, I'm found a 2011 Etec 40hp that has been unused for 5 years, and then only fresh water use before that. Is there likely to be any horrors as a result of long-term inactivity? What maintenance I should do to ensure trouble free use? Thanks!

Do you know if it was winterised before storage? It will need a service, but as long as there isn't any fundamental damage, it should be ok.

Not an outboard but several years ago I bought an old camper van that was being used as a paint shed. Not been started in more than ten years. I put a new battery on it, drained the fuel and put fresh in and away it went. But smoky and stunk to high heaven for a while but all good with an oil change. I think you will be fine [emoji106]

The ol Two Strokes are even more resiliant ...and if it's priced right you could end up with a proper Bargain!

To go off on a tangent, we have a Grey Fergie T20 that was the father in laws. It had stood in the corner of a field for 5 years or so & sunk up to its axles. A chap offered to buy it & we agreed a price as I was never going to use it. I met him on a Sunday morning with a gallon of diesel & a battery. She started first time & pulled herself out of the hole she'd sunk into. I hadn't the heart to sell her after that. I spent a few quid on her & she's now enjoying retirement on my mates small holding.

Fantastic tractors. Probably increasing in price, regardless of condition. This was in Stornoway a couple of years ago. look closely - and it's leaking oil. Love 'em!

Back on thread - before we face the wrath of admin, then drain fuel, do a compression test and fit new impeller. I'd also check behind the thermostat - just to see if there's any salt build-up (you'll need a new gasket).

i would check carefully any rubber hoses, connections especially fuel, any doubts about their integrity replace . Replace the water pump impeller. Better safe than sorry.
