The early FICHTS had a poor reputation due to powerhead failures caused by carbon build up. I had a later model 175hp of similar vintage to yours & the problems had been ironed out by then. It was faultless & very economical (4gph@27kn but it was only pushing a 585). Use the genuine FICHT oil or even better, XD100 & you should be ok. It was problems with the early the FICHT engines & developing the Etec that killed OMC. Check the compression before you buy, should be pretty even across all cylinders & be +125psi
