Evinrude 175 Direct Injection

Hi,

does anyone know the background of these engines?
I have a feeling they were the predecessor of the Ficht, which in turn was replaced by the etec. Any issues with the DI engine, 175 in particular?

Any ideas of economy compared to opti's for instance?

Cheers

Neil

Don't know yet. I thought the fact that it is modeled as Direct Injection rather than Ficht or Etec would define the age.

Need to make some calls and ask some questions, but I would guess it could be.

If its any help i can tell you what i know. The early di engines before Bombardier took over had some fundimental problems.Bombardier redesigned things since then they have been much more reliable of course some problems just like any other make. One problem was on the fuel line branch which were called in to the main dealers for rectification. If this 175 is one your thinking of buying get its engine no.and contact www.jetsmarient.com and ask them if this engine has missed any recalls. If its pre Bombardier it would have to be very cheap and i would want to see it checked on a laptop at a main dealers or i would walk.Being DI it may still be a Ficht. You wouldnt be disapointed with the power ,economy I,m sure would be much better than others. Both the 90 and 150 i,ve got are good untill you open them full throttle but then still better than others.Let me know how you get on.Regards Peter

I believe that the Direct Injection name replaced the FICHT name, although they are basically the same engine, as Evinrude believed that the early problems with the technology had damaged the FICHT brand. (Optimax also went through issues early in it's life cycle)
