Evinrude 50SW ETEC

Hi

I am considering buying a rib with a 2007 Evinrude 50 SW ETEC outboard.

The engine has done 1300 hours. Should I be put off by such high hours ?

Thanks

Engines thrive on use more die from inactivity than actually wear out. Do the usual checks and it should be fine

That’s the problem - I’m having trouble finding out a great deal about it ... apparently previously owned by a siailing club so I’m thinking may have spent a lot of time at displacement speeds?

That's not a problem for the Etec, I'd ask for an engine printout, or if that isn't available, ask them to get it serviced & you'll pay the service costs if the deal goes through. A service will include supplying a printout showing oil settings & times at various RPM bands.

Thanks. That’s may be a good way forward. It’s not the most expensive boat in the world but I would need it to be reliable out on the Solent with children on board.

1300 hours for an evinrude etec is just a running in period for. if it is used with and good fuel filter do dont need to worry about engine hours.

Hi,

If you have a laptop, I can lend you the software/hardware you would need to do a full diagnostic check on the engine. Plenty of Youtube vids on how to do it.

Alternatively, I could prpbably get it done for you for £50 ish.

Regards

That’s a walk in the park for an etec they will go a long time providing they are looked after properly.
