Evinrude 6hp 1970

Hi all,

I have the above mentioned engine and the tiller throttle seems a little stiff. I can open and shut it off using the whole of my wrist action and not just 2 fingers, but it does seem "tight". Should it close once your hand is taken off the throttle or do you have to physically turn them?

Thanks in advance

Andy

You should have to turn it.It's not got a strong return spring from memory, but the chances are at that age the whole tiller mechanism needs removing cleaning and regreasing.

Thanks for that. The linkage on the end of the arm seems free and it deffo seems to be the grip. Having said that this engine is almost new in condition and have never seen a better one still in it's original condition ie no touch ups anywhere and still plated. I just wanted to check before I dismantled the grip as I believe that can be tricky. Well not dismantling it but putting it back together

I like my tiller to return to idle. Kinda a safety feature I suppose.
