Evinrude E-TEC 225 HO or 250?

Both 3279cc V6 and the power output of the 225 HO is stated as "factory tuned". Apart from the colour, what is the difference between these two engines?

I read somewhere the 225HO rude was 247HP, but that may have been for the earlier Evinrude DI engine.

The 225HO has 10% more power than the sticker says, so 247hp.

They're for American sport fishing competitions where your engine if dyno'd has to be within 10% of the stated hp. Something like that anyway, i forget the details.

Not much point buying a 225HO in this country if the 250 is the same price.

ive just bought a 225ho there is a lot of diff. between the two engines: small power diff. lighter weight, smaller sized engine, quicker of the mark, but most important its the boat your fitting it to.
made for sport/thinner type hulls.the set up height is very important

I looked at these at LBS.

The 225HO is much more streamlined under the water. It has a slimmer gearcase = less resistance to the water but therefore smaller (weaker?) gears. This might account for some of the difference in weight.

It looks the business!

I decided to stick with the 250, given the hard life that it will probably get.

Cheers!

Chris.

GED, which instruments and throttles do you have and are you pleased with them?

HO sure looks prettier than the stock 225.
