Not had a problem & mine are 5 years old. Is it kept afloat or on a trailer? Fresh or salt water? Being in Teignmouth I'm guessing salty.

Welcome to Ribnet BTW, it's always nice when someone starts off with a problem post

I have an e-tec 30hp 2010 and no problem or whatsoever with paint. Sorry to hear about your problem. Do you have a photo?

I know the postings on the following American? site are a few years old, but might be worth discussing with your warranty dealer. It suggests that BRP have replaced the lower units for some customers with paint issues:
Etec lower unit paint peeling-who to contact? - The Hull Truth - Boating and Fishing Forum

How true or relevant these postings are today and to your case, I couldn't say but if you search the net you will find other references to E-tec paint warranty issues.

This isn't unique to BRP Evinrude E-Tecs either, other manufacturers have paint peeling warranty issues as well, some more than others.

Bobsyournob, keep this thread updated and let us know how you get on! I'm picking up my new E-Tec 90 next week

thanks colcrete, very informative, ive been on to the chandlers i bought the engine from, they required photo`s which i sent, still they want me to take the whole rig for them to see,but he did say they`re for BRP to see,i will definately keep you informed,
I know you will not be dissapointed with your new 90hp,just one thing the book says no run in period its up to you but i gave my engine a bit of care and run it in steadily, you`ll soon feel the engine get looser and there`s no need to run them flat out throttle back when up on the plane, then you`ll see how economical and quiet they are.

Good to hear you are getting the problem fixed and reassuring that they are not just slapping on some paint. At least the downtime is while the weather is poor and a new gearbox sounds like a fair result.
With it being a new box I expect it will have a new water pump and impeller?

OK, may or not be relevant, but my gearbox cracked while the engine was in warranty. By all accounts a rare occurrence. BRP agreed to a replacement no problem, but two issues for you to consider.
First off whilst I got a new casing, the internals were swapped over, no problems if you are happy with the competence of your dealer. I have had no issues on this score.
Secondly, BRP did NOT provide a painted casing, it came in primer. I am told that this is what they do Now my local dealer is great at the usual stuff, but had to get a local paint shop to spray up the casing. A c**p job was done and since then I have had nothing but issues with the paint. Just about to go back again to see about getting it permanently sorted.
