Evinrude etec & problem when I try and start the motor

I still have this problem, and I now think its batteries, the boat is out the water so I cant crank it over.

But this is what I have.

Battery1 - 12.65V with VHF sending a DSC request drops to 10.05V
Battery2 - 13.17V with VHF sending a DSC request drops to 11.00V

Main cable from the battery switch, or the main earth terminals/lead at a guess.

You should be seeing practically no voltage drop.

Wiggle them all about a bit and see if it changes.

Hmm, Well will try and workout a way of connecting the VHF direct to the terminals so I can cut all that out - problem is all the routed cables. I wanted to test what the batteries did under load.

When I have been thinking of the fault, I seem to recall it started when the batteries were ran flat.

I assumed it would just be the batteries, as for the test i did it with the switch on battery 1 and then again on 2 - but forgot both - but the switch, earth and fuse box were all common.

Check it all out anyway-if you've got one dodgy connection it could be heating up.

900 seems high? When I have done a google on 900cca batteries it brings things up the size of a tractor battery?


Anyone know how to work out the CCA of my old batteries. I have removed them and they are 75ah leisure batteries.

Just checked the manual, Minimum 675CCA (845MCA) not sure what "MCA" means?

SO my winter projects list is growing - and I want to get this resolved, and I am having more and more issues that I think are battery related.

Anyone got any experience of the high street motor factors doing a load test?

Anyone know any good cheap companies for two batteries?

I've used Tayna.co.uk for all my batteries recently (cars, boats, yachts, etc) - generally a very good service, excellent range and seem reasonably priced.

Just had 2 140aH/800CCA Vartas delivered this week for my RIB.

try caravan showrooms for batteries, usually do good deals and same numax batteries

also, bear in mind that the worst battery will drag the better one down to same level, if one needs replacing then replace both with two of the same spec, twin batteries are a nightmare on vehicles, even worse on boats
