Evinrude etec servicing/ labour costs

Hi all

Just wanted to check a price i've had for a service on a 90hp Evinrude etec, circa 10 years old, very low hours...fully maintained previously.

Parts cost seem slightly high at £150 but they are what they are:
impeller,
spark plugs,
fuel filter,
fuel diaphragm kit,
thermostat seal/ gasket,
gear oil,
fuel/ water separator,
grease/ sundries etc.

How many hours work is it for the above work and what would you expect the labour cost to be, North Wales...

Thanks

Stuart

I'd have thought 3 hours should easily take care of that, parts seem reasonable. I'm paying £235 for parts + labour for a service on a DF140 with 90hours on it. At least the Etec service is only every 3 years[emoji849]

I just got a service kit and water pump kit for a 115 mariner with oil and it was 127 for the bits so I don't think you are a million miles away with those prices

Cost of service kit for 60 hp etec when I purchasd the parts in winter 2015
Thermostat 24.86
O ring for same 1.70
Spark plugs 18.50 each (3 no reqd for 90 hp)
impeller 41.34
O rings (package) for gear box 2.97
Note: no gear box oil included or fuel filters (small one in engine) or water filter usually on transom.

I believe that this sums to 126.37 pounds sterling (including VAT) for an etec 90 hp.

2-3 hrs for the above mentioned work seems reasonable to me. Note I have not included a filter in the VST tank. This filter is small money but can lead to injector failure if blocked up. The service manual does not show this filter but it exists and required periodic changing

Filter part number 354190
Clip 348839

Regards

TSM

I'll say 2-3 hours if everything comes off first time! The parts costs seem fine (good gear oil is £20 a litre). I'd expect to be hit for about £50 an hour for labour, VAT included.

If something stuck/snapped during the service and it took an extra hour or so to sort out - I'd regard it as my engine's problem and suck it up.

The Etec uses iridium plugs, they ain't cheap but are designed to last the 3yr service interval, a 3 year service on an Etec is the same price as an annual service on a DF140a, I know![emoji849]. The indexing is SOP on an Etec & well documented. Indexing can also benefit other brand DI engines.

Thanks for all the replies!

I was being quoted £225+VAT for the labour which does seem a bit steep...

What's his labour cost/hr? 3 hours should do it.
Try ringing Eddie at Beeston Marina in Nottingham for a price, at least it'll give you something to compare.

If you had 2 more plugs than cylinders, you'd always get a set to index & the 2 spare plugs carried over to next time.

Send a message via ICQ to Metz Antenna Man
We paid around £700 on a three year service with parts and labour on a 200hp Etec. Sure you could try to do it yourself for cheaper but that's no consolation when your engine conks out with no land in sight because you've tried to save a few hundred quid. We don't mind paying for someone's expertise in doing a proper job. Liverpool Powerboat always give us a good service on anything we've had done there.
Indexing the plugs is crucial. If it's not done properly, the engine won't work at maximum efficiency. I watched ours getting done and you need about four spare plugs to get six right. The gap in the plug electrode has to finish up opposite the injector when the plug is fully tightened. I think it's a job best left to professionals, not amateurs like me.

£700 is a bit steep imo. I paid under £600 for a pair of 115s servicing.

Just bought full service pack for a Suzuki df200 v6 for £168. I reckon I can do a service in three hours so would be amazed if it would take a professional technician that long.

I finished replace and index 4 spark plugs in mine 115 HO.

Was lucky, even my torque wrench is MAX 25 N I used all 4 new spark plugs.
Just when you tight spark plug by hands it is visible if it fits or not.

Just switched 2 of them, after fit them by hand and used for some 20 N for others 25 N and every one fits perfectly.

I had another box of 4 (just in case) but for price 6 GBP per item I can afford to have them for next year.
