Evinrude fict 250 need feedback please

I am considering the purchase of a boat with a one year old Evinrude fict 250.
Is this a good engine and how much thirstier is it compared to the equivelent four strokes?

I have just had an Evinrude E Tec 225 fitted fantastic engine more eco, than the four stroke in that class but I think the Fict engines suffered real proplems with reliability

I think the reliability issues were on earlier engines.... The "unfriendly bastards" on Boatmad will undoubtedly give you chapter and verse if you ask 'em.. they are anally retentive so be sure to have your engine number ready to quote... http://www.boatmadforum.co.uk/

I have a 200 fitch its 5 years old now (2000), I have had the boat (with engine) for 1 year. From the service records, nothing has been a problem, as has been looked after and serviced properly AND the proper Evinrude oil.

It has been a very good engine and goes very well.

Some people i know have had to replace the rams, but thats down to people washing the salt off.

I think the earlier ones there were modifications to help with combustion, however mine (2000 model) and newer dont need/have these

I can only speak for mine but its a good engine, i intend to keep it until its knackered (worn out)

Shouldn't have any problems - plenty of people run them commercially for years - John at Quinquari is the bloke to ask - he swears by them!!!

I have 150 fict had a 90 previuos to that. They have been new and very good on fuel although i tend to keep the throttle open more often than not. I had sensor go but under warrenty on the 90.Get the engine no if pos and have it checked.Check its history even if you are able to have it put onto a laptop it will tell the operator its hours used, max temperature ever reached it will b
reak down in percentages its time used and at what throttle openings etc .If its one year old you will have two years left and peace of mind .Its agood warenty only if the services are logged
