Evinrude Outboard - would you buy one?

I’m about to buy a rib with a 2016 Evinrude etec 150 engine. A friend just told me that the company have stopped making outboards, and now I’m really worried about future servicing and parts availability. Seeking advice!

Cheers.

Great engine, punches well over its weight. BRP have said they will continue to support the Etec range for another 10years minimum. There’s plenty of parts in circulation. Get a printout from the engine if possible before you buy it. If it’s been serviced the owner should have one. They all came with a 5 year warranty, some had a 10yr warranty, worth checking this too.

Thanks for that. This one is in warranty until May this year. Does this engine report its own hours do you know?

Yes, the printout from the Etec is very thorough. You’ll get ignition on time/engine run time/number of starts/time at various rev ranges/battery voltage/ etc.

The ETEC motor is a fantastic option. So long as it checks out, don’t worry about the fact that the line got shutdown. BRP is a very reputable company and has great customer support.

I would be looking to find a good etec service engineer,
and making sure it has been serviced properly,
they are good engines.
